Join FORConn!

We are looking for parents and friends of the mentally retarded in Connecticut to become more involved in the system that supplies services to their children in Connecticut. Learn how to advocate for choices and options for your children. Get actively involved in what goes on in the Department of Developmental Services and get to talk to Legislators about your concerns. We need parents to help fight for the rights of all mentally retarded children no matter where they live, work or play. Interested? Join us!

As a member, you will also receive a tremendous amount of information in our Monthly Mailings. These mailings that have all the up to date happenings in Connecticut and across the nation when it comes to services and help for persons with mental retardation and their families. The mailings are designed to help members become better informed and more effective in presenting their points of view.

FORConn is supported through membership donations. Please let your friends, families, therapists, doctors and anyone you know about FORConn and our mission, and ask them to join FORConn in a show of support! Help advocate for persons with mental retardation today through FORConn! Families working together can and do make a difference!

SNET Community Giving

Donate a percentage of your phone bill (at no cost to you) to FORConn by listing us through their charitable community giving program. Sign up yourself and ask you friends, family members, church and employer to designate Friends of Retarded Citizens of Connecticut, Inc. through the SNET charitable community giving program.

FORConn Can Receive United Way Funds

While FORConn is not a designated agency for United Way funding, the United Way can accommodate those who want FORConn or other 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations to receive funding through workplace campaigns. Many employers match employee donations to all charities during their United Way drives, don't miss out on this opportunity to "double" you donation!

Here's how to help FORConn through the United Way Donor Choice Program:

1. Ask your employer for a Donor Choice Program form.

2. Indicate that you want to direct your gift to a specific agency:

Volunteer!

FORConn is supported by members and friends who volunteer to support the FORConn mission! We need lots of help, and you are welcome to join in and work in any way that fits your schedule. Some suggestions include:

  • Join an advisory committee or the board - Our board members do a substantial amount of work and we can always use more parent volunteers
  • Advocate for our children around the state through additional groups and agencies. Help ensure FORConn has a voice throughout the state.
  • Testify for public bills and acts that support our mentally retarded citizens - and testify against those that do not.

Donate Directly to FORConn

FORConn is a 501(c)3 charity, and your donations are tax deductible to the full extent allowed by laws. Donations and sponsorship are welcome! Donate to FORConn as tribute to someone you love. Or, if appriate for your situation, please consider leaving a legacy to FORConn through estate planning! FORConn is supported solely by membership fees and donations.
